在冰岛语中，“Tvö – Ein”可译作“二 – 一”或“二 – 独”，体现了这两个词之间传统而深刻的关系。这一标题引发我们思考：在生活与艺术中，何谓“在一起”？又如何在“共处”中依然保持独立？这指向了一个永恒的存在主义命题：我们究竟该选择“在一起”，还是“独自存在”？

Arna Valsdóttir 与 Aðalsteinn Þórsson 是生活中的伴侣，却始终坚持各自的艺术实践。他们并肩而行，彼此靠近，却不以合作之名创作。如今，在中国欧洲艺术中心（CEAC）完成为期四个月的联合驻馆后，两人带来了一场比以往更为交织的展览。尽管作品依旧保有各自的独立性，但其中的界限似乎正悄然变得模糊。这场展览，也因此成为一次关于“共创”可能性的有趣实验。

Arna 主要从事影像创作，其灵感来自她的母亲 Sigríður——一位沉醉于中国纪录片频道的老年女性。该频道播出精致的自然、人文、艺术和农业纪录片，并配有英文字幕。Arna 所描绘的，是这位老人日复一日地坐在旧地图册与英冰词典之间，通过屏幕遨游中国山川的情景。想象中的旅行，已成为她生活中最大的慰藉与美的源泉。从某种意义上说，她也成为了一位自学的“汉学家”。Sigríður 的故事成为作品的线索，与 Arna 驻地期间所拍摄的日常影像交织，构成她独特视角下的“日常中国”。熟知她作品的人会明白，在她的镜头里，即便是寻常的生活片段，也总带有诗意与异质感。

Aðalsteinn 则延续其长期项目《私人收藏》，专注于“生活的遗留物”——近年多为他与 Arna 的日常消费残余，尤其是厨房中留下的包装与碎片。在厦门，他在展厅外搭建了一座圆顶竹构——《私人收藏》在此地的分支，结构灵感源于 Buckminster Fuller 的设计原则。圆顶内部展出了此次驻馆期间所积累的塑料包装与生活痕迹。此外，他还呈现了一系列用中国纸、墨水与水彩创作的图像，这些“未来图像”仿佛是一种精神性的记录，也描绘着与现实中圆顶相呼应的结构与想象。

在这场展览中，两位艺术家将作品并置，不是合一，而是彼此倾听、对话。他们在空间中共建了一种新的结构，使某种意外的、未知的事物在其中悄然显现。究竟是，抑或不是……“在一起”？

In English Two - One or Two - Alone, which is the traditional understanding of the relationship of these two words in Icelandic. The title refers to the question of what it is to be together in life and art, while at the same time remaining independent - as artists and individuals. It touches on the eternal existential problem: to be or not to be - together. 

Arna Valsdóttir and Aðalsteinn Þórsson create their artworks individually, yet they are still companions in life. They work closely, side by side, but not together. Now, following a four-month joint residency at Chinese European Art Center (CEAC) in Xiamen, they present an exhibition that is more intertwined than usual. These are nevertheless their own works as individuals - or what? Works of both artists materialize from the everyday experience, and in that aspect the exhibition is an interesting attempt to a joint installation. 

Arna works mainly with video and draws inspiration from her mother Sigríður's fascination with a Chinese television channel that broadcasts beautifully shot documentaries on the country's natural landscapes, cultivation, arts and human life. Arna portrays an elderly woman who has spent long hours in later years with her youngest daughter's old book of maps from elementary school by her side and an English/Icelandic dictionary, since the TV channel has English subtitles. This has become her greatest joy in life: traveling through the wilderness of China in her imagination, nurturing her longing for beauty. In her own way, she has become something of a sinologist. Sigríður's stories are a guiding theme that then intertwine with Arna's video footage from her time in the country, the everyday China that the visitor experiences during a studio stay. Those who know Arna’s work know that there is little that is everyday about her way of collecting experiences on video, although everyday life is the subject. This is Arna Valsdóttir in China. 

Aðalsteinn continues his ongoing project The Personal Collection, which has been his main focus for the past half-decade. He collects "the remains of his life". The leftovers from his consumption, and possibly by Arna in recent times, those are from the artists kitchen. Aðalsteinn has built a dome, a branch of the Personal Collection here in Xiamen, a bamboo construction on a tiled platform outside the exhibition hall. The structure follows the principles of Mr. Buckminster Fuller. Inside the dome, he displays plastic packaging, leftovers of the stay. He also presents future images from the Personal Collection, at it´s home in Eyjafjörður, made with ink and watercolors on Chinese paper. These images serve as spiritual records of the future and depicting structure based on the same principle as he constructed here in Xiamen, among other things.  

In the exhibition at CEAC, the two artists juxtapose their works to build an installation where something new and unexpected emerges. To be or not to be... with.

Arna G. Valsdóttir（1963年生）于1986年毕业于雷克雅未克冰岛艺术与工艺学院平面设计系，并于1989年完成荷兰马斯特里赫特Jan van Eyck学院音频/视频系的学业。她目前生活和工作在冰岛北部的阿克雷里，但其作品已在冰岛及国际范围内广泛展出。Arna是阿克雷里A!表演艺术节的董事会成员，并自2015年起担任Heim影像艺术节的导演和主持人，该影像节在她的家中举办。她还在阿克雷里职业学校（VMA）艺术系任教，并担任即将上映的纪录片《舞动的线条》（Dancing Lines）的艺术总监。

Arna最著名的作品是基于在展览空间内的歌唱表演的视听/歌曲装置。她在2014年于阿克雷里艺术博物馆举办的个展《Staðreynd/Local Fact本地故事》中获得了广泛的认可。在该展览中，她展示了2008年至2014年间在不同地点创作的六件视频/歌曲作品，以及她1988年创作的第一件视频/歌曲装置。每一件作品的声音与动作在空中交织，创造出全新的对话。

Arna G. Valsdóttir b. 1963, graduated 1986 from the graphic department of the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts in Reykjavík and from the audio/video department of the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, NL in 1989. She lives and works in Akureyri, north Iceland, but has exhibited widely in Iceland and internationally. Arna is a board member of the A! Performance Festival in Akureyri and the director and host of the Heim Video Art Festival, based in her home, since 2015. Arna teaches at the art department of VMA, the Akureyri Vocational School, and is the artistic director of the upcoming documentary film Dancing Lines.

Video/song installations, based on a singing performance in the exhibition space, are the best-known works of Arna and her solo exhibition "Staðreynd/Local Fact" that opened in the Akureyri Art Museum in 2014 gained her a wide recognition. In that exhibition she exhibited 6 different video/song works created into different locations in the years from 2008 - 2014 and her first video/song installation from 1988. The voices and movements of each work met in the air and a new dialog was created.

Aðalsteinn Þórsson 于1964年出生在冰岛北部的阿克雷里。他于1993年毕业于阿克雷里视觉艺术学院（The School of Visual Arts），并于1998年在荷兰恩斯赫德市的荷兰艺术学院（ArtEz，前身为AKI）获得了自主艺术（MFA）学位。

Aðalsteinn Þórsson was born 1964 in Akureyri, north Iceland. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at The School of Visual Arts in Akureyri in 1993 and got a MFA degree in autonomous art from The Dutch Art Institute, ArtEz, formerly AKI2 in the city of Enchede in the Netherlands in 1998.

Since then, Aðalsteinn has been a working artist. Initially based in the Netherlands but has lived in Iceland since 2016. He has been actively involved in exhibitions, holding solo exhibitions, participating in group shows and events, as well as being a curator. Aðalsteinn has also been active in the social affairs of cultural sector. His main project, however, is The Personal Collection, an environmental project that he operates in a oasis of vegetation in Eyjafjord, 10 km. south of Akureyri.
